This is a guide
that points out all the shortcuts
I know for Sonic Adventure. This
may not be the best, or most
complex, or it may not even have
all the shortcuts but I'll do my
best. Note that these shortcuts
apply to Sonic's quest only,
seeing as the other characters
have different levels (or
different variations of the same
levels) these shortcuts do not
apply to them.
Start this level
off by spin dashing through the
level until you reach the first
brown pier with the single monkey
and the springs, instead of using
the regular way you can take one
of two shortcuts. Either jump to
the small island on the right
(the one with the spiked ball
revolving around the tree)and you
should see a single spring on
this island, use it and you will
bypass the numerous springs and
bouncy rope section. you can take
that way or you can stand in the
middle of the pier while it is
going up at an angel and perform
the long jump (see Sonic
Adventure Tips and Quirks) and
you will rocket yourself up and
unto the pier above. Now you
should be headed for a loop ramp,
this is a hard shortcut to pull
off but it is possible, instead
of hitting the speed pad and
running a loop try and jump
straight through the loop and you
will save youself three or four
seconds. Now keep spin dashing
until you hit the check point and
keep going, hit the speed pad
that launches you into the air
and unto the grassy area. Run
through the speed pad and hold
right or you will bump into the
left wall and slow yourself down,
now hit the next speed pad and
launch yourself up the steep
incline, now spin dash through
the rising and falling spiked bar
and keep going. Hit the next
speed pad that launches you into
the air and unto the dock where
you meet the orca (also known as
the killer whale), spin dash as
fast as you can until you hit the
check point. At this point you
will be chased by the orca, do
not spin dash here because often
times you will bump into the wall
and the orca will kill you, run
along normally until you get away
from the orca and land on the
next beach area, spin dash over
or under the spike bar and use
the three spring platforms to
launch yourself higher. You
should now be on an area with a
white catwalk and two gaps on the
catwalk, you can walk across
these and wind will blow you back
up but the fast way to do it is
to peform the long jump right
before the first gap and you will
clear both platforms in one jump,
now walk along the fork in the
catwalk and at about the half way
point of the fork jump to the
straight area you can see instead
of walking normally and enter the
second part of the level.
Start off by spin
dashing, hitting the check point,
and continue spin dashing until
you reach the long path with the
waterfall to the right, stop spin
dashing and run normally until
you gain enough speed to walk
along the wall to the left,
continue running along to wall,
collect the speed shoes capsule
and enter the cavern ahead of
you, hit the speed pad and bounce
along the springs, go into the
next cavern and run along. You
should now be in a broad, outdoor
area with ocean to the left and
walkway to the right and a
corkscrew cavern ahead of you.
Run straight at the corkscrew
cavern but as soon as you hit the
speed pad right before the cavern
hold forward and jump, you should
go straight through the cavern,
now spin dash to the next speed
pad that launches you unto the
next area with the very steep
ramp and the two speed pads. Now
walk right in front of the speed
pads and charge up the spin dash
for a couple seconds. Now let go
and hold hard right, about
halfway into your descent press
forward and the jump botton and
you will perform the home attack
landing you on the land area
below you. You should now see an
area with two speed pads and
another incline, instead of
taking that path look a little
more to the right and quickly
spin dash to the spring there, it
will launch you up to another
spring, hit that spring and you
will land on the area that you
usually land on from the jump
pads. Now spin dash like crazy to
the end to complete the level.
My
best time doing this: 1:45:49
Begin the level by
spin dashing along the regular
path, now you should see a little
area of land with a ring capsule
on it, jump there. Now you should
see many fan type structures in
front of you, use Sonic's homing
attack to go from fan to fan
until you hit a land area with a
spring, use the spring to launch
yourself to another area, go
through the checkpoint and hit
the wind current to launch you to
the trampoline, jump twice on it
and land on the higher area, jump
then home attack to the next area
and hit a bridge, speed dash
across the bridge and get the
extra life, at this point a
tornado will form in the distance
and everything will become dark,
now you will be where you started
in the level, walk across the
brown section of the ground to
lift you up and you will be
sucked up by the tornado!
So now you are in
the tornado, this part is pretty
simplistic except for a few
things. Follow the paths and go
from spring to spring, then go
from jump pad to jump pad. Run
through the checkpoint and bounce
three times on the trampoline and
land on the bridge. Run to the
only available direction on the
bridge and hit the spring, go
from spring to spring until you
land on the final area of land.
Now instead of jumping into the
hole that contains the final
spring simply run right into it,
it doesn't look like you can make
it but there is an opening there
you can go through. Use the final
spring and launch yourself out of
the tornado.
This final area is
the fastest of the three. Start
off by spin dashing along the
roller coaster like pathways,
hitting speed pads along the way
until you make it to a rocket
pad, you can either use it and
hit the next area with another
set of roller coaster pathways or
look ahead, you should see a
trail of rings. Perform the light
speed dash here to clear the gap
and go along as normal until you
branch into the regular path.
Spin dash along the roller
coaster pathways until you see a
very steep incline ahead, at this
point stop spin dashing and run
normally (or just continue along
in a ball from your previous spin
dash). Hit the ramp, run the
loop, and continue on until you
land on an area with speed pads
and springs. Hit the speed pads
and and run into the springs, now
you will see what looks to be a
first floor or second floor
situation, home attack unto the
area with grass and run along it
until you come across a spring,
hit the spring and you will land
on an area with a huge gaping
hole in it's center. Fall in and
wind will take you up into the
air to another roller coaster
area with speed pads and the
such. Do the same as you you have
before until you reach a large
brown wall that you will run
down, keep going along hitting
speed pads along the way, hit the
wind current and it will take you
to the end of the level. The rest
is easy.

Due to the fact
that this is more or less an
adventure type level than an
action level I will not give
short cuts... because there
aren't any!
This level isn't
very difficult and quite easy to
obtain an A class emblem in.
Start off by spin dashing through
the cavern you start in, hit the
speed pads, spin dash up the
hill, hit the spring, and enter
the next cavern. Go through the
cavern until you come upon
another spring that launches you
up to some ice shards, jump from
cycle to cycle until you land on
another area, run along it until
you come across another spring,
use it to bounce up and run along
until you reach a rocket pad
which will take you across the
mountain into a huge ice
cavern...which is also part 2.
Run through the
narrow opening and you will enter
the ice cavern, look at your
right and you will notice a short
cut, jump down and hit the
spring, which will launch you up
to another row of ice shards.
Jump across the shards and hit
the next spring, run along until
you see another spring, use it.
You will now be launched to yet
another row of ice shards. Once
again, jump from cycle to cycle
and you will land on an area with
a speed pad, run across it and
you will land on another area
with two springs. Use the one on
the left and you will land on an
area with a foot switch, stand on
the switch and a long, narrow ice
bridge will appear. You can run
across it but I would recommend
that anyone who hasn't played
this level before walk slowly.
Now hit the speed pad and run up
to an area with jump pads. Use
them and you will land on an area
where a huge ice shard will fall
down, wait for it then jump on it
then wait for the bridge to lower
then go across it to the next
area.
Now you get to do a
little snowboarding! This is
fairly self explanatory, just
keep an eye out for speed pads.
Near the end of this portion is
the best short cut of this level.
You will see a narrow ramp with
passageways on the left and right
side of it. Use the ramp and you
will go across a huge gap unto
another small area, use the ramp
there, go to next area, use the
ramp there, go to next area, use
the speed pads there and you will
go flying off the edge and land
at the end of the level.
My
best time doing this: 3:28:56
This level is a
pain in the butt if you're going
for an A class emblem but there
is one shortcut that makes it a
piece of cake...I'll get to that
later though. First off, destroy
only the single blue bumper car
and quickly jump in avoiding the
rest of the cars, go through the
door and start the bumper car
ride. I will skip this part
because it's easy and doesn't
need explaining.
You will start this
part off with a nice
rollercoaster ride, this is
automatic so just sit back and
enjoy. As soon as you begin to
stop though get ready to hold
hard right. Do this when you stop
and you won't fall into the
beginning of Twinkle Park but
rather stay in the docking bay of
the rollercoaster. Now this is
that shortcut I was talking
about, slowly walk back to the
rollercoaster track, now very
slowly walk unto the track. You
will fall through and possibly
land on a platform waiting for
you outside, now jump into the
courtyard to your right. Use the
springs ahead and run along the
roof, go down the valley on the
roof and run across the speed
pads. You will land in an area
with a pool, now up ahead there
is a lower ground area and alot
of revolving blue towers. Now I
know those towers appear to be
shortcuts but in my experience
they aren't. Just jump down to
the regular area, run up the hill
avoiding the spiked balls, climb
up the stairs, run across the
straight platform with the three
rows of TNT barrels, jump to the
next tower and run up the hill
with the spiked ball (avoid that
too). Turn right and home attack
to the spring. Now you will land
on a set of hovering platforms,
jump to the next and then jump on
the roof. Run along the side of
the roof until you reach a
spring. The spring will launch
you into another set of springs
which will bring you to an area
with three enemies and a shelter
type area. Now just finish up the
level.
My
best time doing this: 2:42:41
The fastest level
in the game is also one of the
hardest to obtain an A class
emblem in. Start off by spin
dashing like crazy going across
speed pads on your way, stop the
spin dashing when you reach a
loop. After the loop you will be
running across an area where the
road starts to make an extreme
right turn, just hit the speed
pads here. They will launch you
into the air unto the top of a
building, run to the spring, jump
on the platform and wait till you
get to the end. Hit the
checkpoint and a short cut will
be ahead. Do not spin dash here
or you will not make the
shortcut, instead run normally
while hitting the speed pads, you
should be running across the side
of a building now, hit the speed
shoes power-up and run along the
road that branches from the
building, keep running while
hitting the speed pads. After the
road ends you will enter an area
where you hit some speed pads and
a cup type device lifts you up to
the next area, keep running until
you reach some revolving
platforms. Jump on the platforms
and wait until you see a very
narrow strip of road, jump off,
run across the road jump down to
the road below, and hit the next
cup device. This will send you
flying into some springs which
will send you flying over a
helicopter which you will need to
grab a hold of, be careful not to
get too close to the helicopter
while in the air or it's rotor
blades will cut you. Grab a hold
of the helicopter, fly across,
hit the checkpoint, and locate
the rocket pad. Use it and run
across the new strip of road,
don't spin dash here because a
loop is up ahead and you will
fall off if you spin dash. Now
keep running and hit both speed
pads. Now you will be in the air
with a huge stadium type
structure below you. Instead of
just falling down there you will
see a small platform above it,
try your best to land on that and
use Sonic's homing attack to make
your way across the row of
enemies and unto another area.
Find the rocket pad here and use
it which will take you to the
next area.
Now you are falling
down a building...or running
rather. This is easy but there
are things to slow you down. Try
your best not to hit any of the
platforms or columns, if you do
so you will be slowed down
extremely and lose precious
seconds. After the building ends
you will go smashing through a
glass roof into the lobby of the
building you were running down.
You are now in the
town area, you should only have a
few seconds left to get that A
class emblem here so hurry up!
Start off by hitting the speed
pad on your right, jumping on the
roof of the building it takes you
to, branch into the street, run
on the right side of the street
going up, use the spring on the
sidewalk ahead of you, run
through the alley above the
street, turn right while still on
the building, use the speed pad,
use the spring, go through the
opening in the building, and use
the water fountain to launch you
up to the end of the level. Whew!
My
best time doing this: 2:23:48
Sorry, but I can't
get an A class emblem on this
level...yet. I'll tell you some
short cuts I know anyway though.
Start the level by spin dashing
to the rocket pad ahead of you.
Now instead of falling to the
metal platform below press hard
right and aim for the higher,
grassy area. Now run across the
metal walkway until you reach a
rocket pad. However, you have to
run behind the spiked ball and
step on the switch there, now go
back to the rocket pad and use
it. Now there are multiple
shortcuts ahead. The shortest one
being a platform high in the air
with a spring, if you can't land
on this platform then go for the
springs on the right of you near
the boxes. Now hit the
checkpoint, run across the
bridge, run across the area with
all the spiked balls and steam
and hit the spring. You will land
on an area with a tow cable, use
the tow cable and you will be in
an area with a checkpoint and
multiple platforms, hit the
checkpoint, leap across the
platforms, hit the spring, run
across the breaking coal bridge,
run through the area with the
monkeys and flames and things,
hit the rocket pad switch and use
the rocket pad, jump up the
moving platforms, run across the
next coal bridge, run through the
flames, run across the wood
bridge, run down the metal slope,
use the springs, and run across
the metal floor. Now you will
have to press another switch to
activate a rocket pad but be
careful of the smashing hammer,
use the rocket pad and you will
land in an area with a lava pool
in the middle. Now carefully jump
across the small piece of ground
on the left side of the pool and
to the other side for another
shortcut. now use the next tow
cable to bring you down to a
platform, a trap door will open
here. Enter it for part 2 of this
level.
This is pretty
easy, there really isn't any
shortcuts, just alot of jumps so
just use your best judgement. Get
to the end to finish the level.
My
best time doing this: 3:31:89
This is a very
frustrating level if you have a
fear of hights. Let me point
something out here, every time
you cling to one of those big,
red columns jump to the other
side instead of slowly walking
across, this will save you alot
of time. Now after the first red
column spin dash and home attack
jump over all the obstacles in
your way. Now climb the ladder
and jump off about half way up
and home attack to the spring.
Now home attack to each column
and to the next area of metal
catwalk. Hit the speed pad, run
down the incline, and hit the
next speed pad. You will be
launched into the air and sent to
a small area with a checkpoint
and a speed pad, go off the edge
using the speed pad and it will
rocket you to the another column,
carfully jump across this one
(it's alot easier to fall off
here) and get to the other side.
Hit the speed pad, run up the
incline, hit the next speed pad,
go through the zig zag catwalk,
run through the loop, turn the
next turn, hit the set of
springs, and hit the next speed
pad. Hold right when you enter
the indoor hallway area after the
speed pad or you will hit the
wall, go down the next zig zag
cawalk, carefully avoiding the
spiked balls. Now you will be at
another ladder with revolving
spiked balls. Be very careful not
to get hit here, once past the
ladder there will be another
ladder going forward. This is the
best shortcut in the level. If
you look closely you will see a
discoloration in the ladder up
ahead, this means that a section
of the ladder will break. Go
across the ladder and as soon as
it breaks jump in the air and do
a homing attack forward. If
succesful you will land on the
still stable ladder section. Jump
to the section ahead of you, turn
left, run through the enemies,
turn right, climb the column,
jump to the section on the right,
the rest is just the same thing
about three more time. At the end
send a rocket pad into the giant
cannon to get to part 2.
Now you will be in
a wide open area. Run through the
checkpoint, hit the speed pads,
hit the springs, jump off the
column and go to the right. at
this point all you should do is
speed dash like mad! Avoid as
many enemies as you can, don't
home attack jump at all, this
will slow you down. Now go
straight from the right direction
of the column, turn left, now
head for the area with alot of
turrets, keep going until you see
a platform that heads up, run up
that and hit the spring. This
will place you on a ladder,
immediately jump to Sonic's left
and speed dash to the checkpoint.
Now you will have to speed dash
through a section where pieces of
the floor will fall through. Your
best bet is to stay in the center
and look out for falling
platforns, If you are too low to
go forward jump to the left or
right. after this you will be in
an area with a giant cannon in
the middle and rocket pads around
the cannon. Simply shoot a rocket
into the cannon's barrel to go to
part 3.
As soon as you
enter hit the checkpoint and
speed dash to the white elevator
up ahead and to the right. Go up
it, run across the plaforms with
the enemies, hit the speed pads,
hit the spring, climb the ladder,
and run across the platform to
the hook catch area. Now try to
get the first one you see here to
save time. Jump down and hit the
checkpoint. here is another
shortcut, after the checkpoint
you should see a platform going
up to your left, go up that, jump
off of it to the left, run on the
uneven surface, and jump to the
platform that's high and to the
right. At this point you will
want to speed dash as fast as you
can going about staight ahead. If
you do that right you will be at
the next checkpoint without even
having to climb all those
ladders, now hit the checkpoint,
use the spring, and walk down the
platform following it's direction
until you come to an area with
alot of catwalks going down in a
zig zag pattern. Instead of just
following the direction the
catwalks go you can bypass them
all in one swift jump. Position
yourself on the first catwalk and
jump off the right side (jump
down in your perspective). If
done right you will land on the
very last cat walk saving
yourself about 10-15 seconds. Now
stand on the switch in the middle
of the area you are on and run
into the tunnel that is going
down (the end one). Follow this
tunnel to the end.
My
best time doing this: 3:44:18
This level seems
very hard at first but once you
get the hang of it you'll see
it's quite easy. Start off by
spin dashing as fast as you can
through the grassy garden area,
then through the tunnel, then
through another tunnel, then jump
the spikes then enter the water
filled area with the big snake.
The rest doesn't have any short
cuts so I'll skip it.
Start by spin
dashing as fast as you can, being
careful not to fall off the side
of the cliff. After the cliff
edge and the two doors you will
be in a dark room area. You have
to use the light sources on the
mirrors to advance. This is also
fairly simplistic so we'll skip
it. At the end you will need to
use your light speed dash to
cross the line of rings, after
that enter the pool of water and
slide down the tunnel river. Now
you fall off a waterfall! Aim for
the small piece of grassy terrain
or else you will drown, use the
springs to make a faster crossing
of the pond area, and dash
through the flaming hallway. Now
you get to relive Indiana Jones
and be chased by a flaming
boulder! Spin dash as fast as you
can while avoiding to touch the
edges, after this go through the
door, then the next. you will be
in an area with alot of enemies
and blue panels on the wall. What
you must do here is jump on the
blue switches and arrange the
panels to align making them
darken and become walkable on,
once again, this part is easy
with patience so I will also skip
this part. At the end use your
light speed dash again to cross
the line of rings, run the loop
to loop and finish the level.
My
best time doing this: 7:29:03
The longest level
in the game isn't as hard as it
may seem. Start off by spin
dashing over the laser things,
keep spin dashing until you get
to the multi-height platform
area. Go to the highest one on
the right and use the springs
there. Now hit the checkpoint and
run as quickly as possible
through the turn buckle area. Now
you should be in a circular
tunnel with revolving sections,
this is a pain. You really
shouldn't spin dash on any of the
revolving section because this
will just slow you down, instead
just run normally. After this
part you will enter part 2
Now you must jump
from platform to platform and run
through alot of tunnels, this is
simplistic so I'll skip it also.
At the end you will land in an
area with a switch, step on the
switch and turn to your left for
a shortcut, just jump on that
platform instead of going through
the row of enemies, keep
following the platforms going up,
now go through the small entry
way and use the elevator. Spin
dash through this area until you
get to another set of platforms.
Here is yet another shortcut,
instead of jumping down from
platform to platform simply jump
off the right edge of the first
and hugs the circular wall, you
will land on an area with another
elevator which will take you to
part 3.
Now spin dash
through the room with the two
revolving spiked balls and spin
dash through the tunnel. You will
be in a large room full of
enemies, instead of trying to
destroy them quickly make your
way to the ladder ahead of you
and ignore the enemies, killing
them will waist time and they
regenerate anyway. After a brief
run you will encounter a room
with alot of fans similar to the
ones in Windy Valley. You must
use these fans to blow yourself
across the gaps, do this. After a
couple more runs and more fan
rooms you will enter another area
with alot of enemies, do the same
as you did earlier. Now you will
go into another fan room but look
out for a shortcut here. Instead
of starting from the lowest point
try and aim at the platform that
is higher in the air, it's hard
but you will save yourself 7-10
seconds if pulled off. After this
room there will be several more
tunnels, then a room with an
enemy and those Sonic, Tails, and
Knuckles dolls set up for the
E-100 bots. After this there will
be another room with several
enemies inside, go to the door on
the left and use your lightspeed
dash to run across the trail of
rings and complete the level.
Well, there you
are. Like I said...it may not be
the best guide there is but I did
quite alot of work putting this
together and that's got to be
worth something.
