This is a
guide to help you with Big the
Cat's quest. It will include fish
categorization, reeling
techniques, level strategies,
hidden fishing spots, and more. Beginner's
class:
If you are
new to Big's adventure then you
will need to learn a few things
before fishing. To cast your line
hold the B button, a cursor will
pop up and you will have to aim
it, target it on the fish you
wish to reel in and let go of the
B button, you should cast your
line. You may also use your
fishing rod as a means of attack,
you can either wack an enemy with
your pole by tapping the B button
or use the same technique you
would use to fish by aiming your
line at an enemy and casting it.
Back to the fishing though, once
your line is in the water and
near a fish that fish should
appear to show an interest in
your lure (depending on the size
of the fish and the stronger the
lure), once a fish get's close to
your lure and bites it hold down
on the joystick to set the hook
(Note: It doesn't matter where
the camera is when setting the
hook, always hold down). Once the
hook is set the words
"HIT!" will flash on
the screen, now you must reel in
your fish. You can either do a
fast reel by holding the A button
down or do a slow reel by holding
the B button down, the best way
to real in a fish is to
repeatedly tap the A button.
Doing this will minimize tension
on the line and it's almost as
fast as holding it. If you reel a
fish in you get the point value
for how large to fish was plus
another chance to fish. If you
don't reel the fish in and your
line snaps then you lose a life
and have to start over. Fish are
measured by grams or
"g's", to get the A, B,
and C class emblems for Big's
adventureyou have to do the
following requirements. Catch
Froggy for a C class emblem,
catch a 1,000g fish and catch
Froggy for a B class emblem, and
catch a 2,000g fish and catch
Froggy for an A class emblem.
That's all you need to know.
Fish
Classification:
I will
note all species of fish below
and give you a summary of that
fishes characteristics, average
weight, where they can be found,
and how much of a fight they put
up.
Cod: A fish that's
green in appearance with numerous
black spots, it has bulging
yellow eyes that are hard to
miss. These fish can be hard to
reel in at times depending on
their size. They average
1,000-1,500g...but some may be
smaller. They can be found in
Twinkle Park and Ice Cap.
Piranha: These fish are
purple on the top and red on the
bottom with a tint of pink on the
jaw, they also have very sharp
teeth. It's kind of a mixed bag
in terms of how hard it is to
reel these in, the smaller ones
will be a breeze but the larger
ones may give you trouble. They
average about 700-1,300g. They
are only found in Twinkle Park.
Mecha
piranha: This fish makes a
return appearance from the
Genesis days of Sonic. Luckily,
it doesn't attack you this time
around. You'll know this fish
when you see it, it's a turquoise
type color on top and white on
the bottom, it has a metallic
lower jaw with yellow fins. These
guys are a pain in the butt to
reel in, no matter what the
size...it took me a wopping 45
minutes to reel in a single one
of these. Average weight is about
900-1,200g. They can be found in
Emerald Coast and Ice Cap.
Silver
fish: I don't know an
exact name for this fish, it's a
silvery-white type color with
blurry black stripes going down
it sides. It has a small, black
type dorsal fin and that's really
all I can tell you...a fairly
bland fish. They aren't very hard
to reel in due to the fact that
most of them are pretty small.
These average around 800-1,000g.
They can be found in Ice Cap.
Tropical
fish: Another fish I
can't give a proper name. It is
similar to the silver fish except
a bit wider and taller. It has a
grill like skin pattern and three
black stripes going down it's
sides. All it's fins are a
blackish-yellow type color. Not
the hardest fish to reel in but
I'll admit my line broke more
than once while attempting this
fish. It's average weight is
about 600-1,000g. Only found in
Emerald Coast.
Red fish: This fish isn't
difficult to spot due to it's
name. It's similar in appearance
to a goldfish except much larger
and a bit more red. It has yellow
eyes with green pupils which is
also an easy way to find it. It's
about on par with a Cod on
difficulty of reeling in. Average
weight about 900-1,600g. Only
found in Emerald Coast.
White fish: Another bland fish
that is hard to distinguish from
say a silver or a tropical fish.
It has a mostly plain white skin
color except for the
yellowish-green spikes on it's
top side. It puts up a pretty
decent fight for it's size and
shouldn't be underestimated when
reeling in. It's average weight
is about 900-1,300g.
Angler
fish: Those little
fisherfish are here too. Just
like the real thing, the angler
is one ugly fish. If you have
ever seen an angler fish in real
life you will immediatly
recognize it here. It has a dark
skin color and is, for the most
part, small. It also has that
little fishing pole like antenna
and big bulgy eyes. A regular
Angler won't put up much of a
fight but the bigger ones can be
a pain. They are on average
400-1,300g. They can only be
found in the Hot Shelter.
Shark: The notorious
shark...every game that has a
fishing element has to have it,
right? Anyone will notice the
shark, it has a patchy, dark blue
type skin color with a white
belly and yellow eyes, it also
has a larger than normal dorsal
fin. These bad boys are mostly on
the large size and that usually
equals a good fight...and it
does. Their average weight is
about 1,000-2,000g. They can be
found in all levels except
Twinkle Park.
Hammerhead
shark: Another type of
shark with a less violent
reputation. The Hamerhead is a
patchy, purple color on top and
white on the bottom...and of
course, it has the hammer type
skull. These guys aren't really
as tough as their big brothers
but the larger ones can put up a
pretty mean fight. Averaging in
at about 800-1,500g. Like the
Shark, they can be found in all
levels except Twinkle Park.
Yellow eel: The most common of
the three variations of eels. It
has a yellowish type color on
it's back accompanied by brown
stripes. As expected from an eel,
they don't put up much of a
fight. Average weight is about
900-1,400g. They can be found in
Emerald coast and Hot Shelter.
Blue eel: The rarest of the
three and the rarest fish there
is! These guys are pretty
small...almost to the point where
you don't even notice them. They
are blue with a pinkish-blue back
and belly. These fish really
don't put up much of a fight.
Averaging about 700-1,500g. They
can only be found in Ice Cap.
White eel: The best looking
of the three. It is white with a
goldish-brown type crown and
beard on it's head, it also has a
dark red stripe on it's back.
Like the other eels, they don't
put up much of a fight. Average
weight is about 900-1,200g. They
can only be found in the Hot
Shelter.
Froggy: Your prime target
in Big's adventure, you must
catch Froggy to end the level. He
can sometimes be hard to find due
to the fact that there is only
one of him, he is green with
several orange stripes on his
back and a tadpole like tail
(that will be gone later in the
game). He doesn't really put up a
fight...maybe a little in the
later levels. He always weighs
the same, 500g. Obviously, he's
found in all levels.
Level
Strategies:
Here I
will give walkthroughs of each
level. This section will include
the location of Froggy, the type
of fish in that level, hidden
fishing spots, and other tips.
This level
only has one fishing spot so it's
really a no brainer. When you
start you will be in front of a
pool. Froggy is on the far right
side of the pool from where you
start. You can go ahead and catch
him or get a little practice in
on your fishing skills with the
other fish in the area. You may
also want to collect the handful
of rings in the area. After you
have finished with your fishing
fun go and catch Froggy to end
the level.
Fish in
this level: Froggy, Cod, Piranha
This level
has many fishing spots and a wide
variety of fish as well. Froggy
is located right where you start.
Go to the frozen patch of water
to your right and you will notice
a discoloration in the ice, this
is a place where you can either
throw a nearby boulder or you can
jump on. Either way the ice will
break open to reveal a fishing
spot. Froggy is right in that
first fishing spot but like I
said before, you may want to look
around, collect some rings, or
catch bigger fish before
attempting to catch Froggy.
Whatever you choose to do go
ahead and catch Froggy when you
are finished to end the level.
Fish in
this level: Froggy, Shark,
Hammerhead shark, Silver fish,
Cod, Mecha Piranha, Blue eel
My
favorite level in Big's
adventure...relaxing music,
beautiful setting, numerous types
of fish, I could go on and on. Be
a little more cautious however,
the enemies will attack you this
time unlike Twinkle Park. Once
again, froggy is located right
where you start. Look ahead and
you will see a large column, walk
to the left of that column into
the water and you will see
Froggy. Before you catch him
though you may want to check out
the secret fishing spot. To get
to it turn left from your
starting position and walk ahead
a little, now you should see a
green ramp. Keep walking past
that and turn left again. You
should now see just a small strip
of land going straight, walk into
that rea until you get to a hint
orb. Read the hint orb's message
about the secret passage and look
out into the ocean, you should
see a jagged rock type structure
pointing out of the water. Head
toward that and use your lifebelt
to go underwater. At this point
you should see an underwater
doorway. Go through that and
follow the tunnel until you come
upon the secret fishing spot. In
the secret fishing spot there are
alot bigger fish than
usual...that's why it's a secret.
Once you have had your fill of
fishing go catch Froggy and end
the level.
Fish in
this level: Froggy, Shark,
Hammerhead shark, Red fish, White
fish, Mecha Piranha, Tropical
Fish, Yellow eel,
You have
to do a little work before being
able to fish in this level. Go
through the hallway with the
statues, go through the door, go
through the next hallway with the
aquariums, and go through the
door at the end. Now you will be
in a room with a platform in the
center, go to the top of that
platform and press the switch
there. This will empty all the
water out of the aquariums into
the room you are in and release
Froggy. You can go ahead and
catch Froggy now or you can try
out another secret fishing spot.
To get to the secret fishing spot
look for the side of the wall
with the four green lights, now
look under that and you should
see a small opening. Use your
lifebelt to enter this passage,
enter the next room filled with
water, surface up to the next
passage above the one you just
entered, and enter the room that
passage leads you to. You should
now see a drainage plug of some
sort on the ground in the middle
of the room. You have to cast
your line into this and latch it
on the little holdster in the
center of the plug, once you
latch it on yank it out by
pressing down on the joystick.
This will release all the water
in the room into the previous
room where Froggy is. Now go back
to that previous room and locate
the underwater door opposite the
side you just came from. Follow
the passage, use the spring, and
enter the passage above the one
you exited out of. You will now
be in a large area where you can
fish out of all those aquariums
you saw earlier in that hallway.
Once you're done fishing go catch
Froggy again to end the level.
There you
are fellow gamers, that is the
most comprehensive guide I could
put together. I hope it helps and
makes your fishing more fun.
