We all
know that Sony will be releasing
its next gen console fall of
2000. We all know that it is
grahpically superior to the our
beloved Dreamcast. So is this the
end of the Dreamcast? Should you
wait and get the PS2 instead? I
will tell, read... Price: PS2 will be well
over the Dreamcast's $199 price
tag. Heck, it will be well over
the $300 mark. $370! Yep, you
read that right, $370. This price
is just way to high, period. If
Sony doesn't lower this price (I
think it will), the PS2 has no
chance in hell of repeating the
PS's succes.
Graphic
power: The PS2 is
superior to the DC graphically.
Quality and gameplay are another
issue, but the graphic power of
the PS2 are increadable. Though
not as much as one might think.
The Dreamcast can pump 4 million
poly's a second with all effects
turned on. The PS2 can pump 16
million polys a second with all
effects turned on. In therory,
the PS2 is 4 times more powerful
than DC. But the human eye can
only see so much detail. The
extra power that the PS2 posseses
might be wasted due to the fact
that our eyes just don't notice
that kind of detail that the PS2
is capable of. Blue Stinger is
very, very detailed. I couldn't
imagine a game being more
detailed, but get this, IT ONLY
USES 50% OF THE DC CAPABILITIES!
The point is, the DC has amazing
graphical poosibilities. From
what I hear, Toyko Xtreme Racer
graphics are as good as the Gran
Turismo demo for the PS2. But
heres the kicker: Metropolis
Street Racer's graphics are
rumored to be better!
Looks: This may seem
dumb, but looks are important in
a console. I refuse to post the
pic of the PS2 on this site, but
I assure you the PS2 looks like
absolute crap. It don't even look
like a console. It looks like
some sort of high tech gizmo from
the 80's. The DC looks cool. It
looks like a console, and gamers
want a console. Not some weird
looking gizmo thingy.
Features: The DC blows away
the PS2 in this department. First
off, the DC is a multiplayer
machine. 4 controller ports are
always better than 2. This is
great for sports games as well as
others like racing. The Modem.
Online multiplayer gaiming. This
is what truly will the PS2 in the
end. If Sega plays its cards
right, and gets a bunch of online
games before the PS2 launch, it
will make the DC seem a whole lot
better. The VMU is great too.
Downloading mini-games and
downloading saves off the net,
without having to bye anything
else, is awesome. Light years
ahead of the basic memory card
for the PS2. The controler is
better too. A million times more
comfortable to hold. Compared to
the Dual Shock 2, with nothing
inovated but analog buttons (ooo,
how impressive, a good idea, but
a useless one at that).
Conclusion: The DC's price,
features, online gaming as well
as a larger game library will any
chance of the PS2 seeing the
light of day.
